Join the Call! June 12-14, 2020 at the Kearns Spirituality Center, Allison Park, PA
“Providence—Where Justice and Radical Hope Meet” is the theme of this year’s Providence Event. We are a planetary community whose call is to imagine a world where Providence People find the courage to speak out for justice and live into our emerging future with radical hope.
Looking at the justice issues of our day with a “Providence Lens” is our task. Our speaker, Nancy Sylvester, IHM, will lead us to consider our call to offer meaning in a suffering world. Where are we being invited to network, collaborate and build bridges with others? How can we be a people with a vision that restores creation, human dignity and peace, and engenders hope one little step at a time?
Over the past 40 years, our Providence Community has helped us understand that we are united with all that exists and that everything is connected. We are in communion with the creative energy we name Providence and this gives us hope! Join us at this Providence Event where together we will create a more just and hope-filled world.
About Nancy Sylvester, IHM
Nancy Sylvester, IHM, is founder of the Institute for Communal Contemplation and Dialogue (ICCD) which began in 2002 in response to her experiences working for justice and right relationships in church and in society. She served in leadership of her own religious community, as well as in the presidency of the Leadership Conference of Women Religious. Prior to that, she was Executive Director of Network, the national Catholic social justice lobby.
Nancy believes in our interconnectedness as a global community and social justice in all its dimensions. She will engage us in the critical issues of our day in ways that foster dialogue, relationships, compassion and justice. As an author and known speaker she has addressed other conferences on topics such as: living in a time of chaos, societal shifts in the world and church, the new universe story, and Catholic social justice teaching. We believe Nancy will guide us in looking at the justice issues of our day, integrating our response with a “Providence Lens.”
WPC 40th Anniversary Celebration
The Women of Providence in Collaboration celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2020! We are standing on the shoulders of our founders, Michelle Holland, SP, and Ruth McGoldrick, SP, who forged a path for us to come together as Providence congregations. Together we have evolved in our understanding of providence theology and spirituality and we know we continue to evolve. The gift of our Collaboration is that together we have more wisdom, more creativity, and more courage to face the future with hope. Let us celebrate our evolutions, our deepening of providence spirituality, our connectedness with one another and with all of creation. In the Name of all that is, we come!
