In 1998, the Sisters of Divine Providence instituted the Ketteler Award to honor individuals who demonstrate a strong commitment to social justice. The award, named for Wilhelm Emmanuel von Ketteler, Bishop of Mainz, Germany, and co-founder of the Congregation of the Sisters of Divine Providence, is presented annually. Bishop Ketteler, honored in Germany as the “social justice bishop,” was a tireless fighter for the rights of the working class. He was bishop from 1850 until his death in 1877, at the age of 65.
2017 Ketteler Award for Social Justice
On August 5, 2017, the Sisters of Divine Providence presented the Ketteler Award for Social Justice to Dr. Zane H. Gates and Associate Jane Kerr. These individuals provide healthcare for poor and vulnerable; Jane addresses basic health and educational needs of children in Uganda.
2016 Ketteler Award for Social Justice
On July 31, 2016, the Sisters of Divine Providence presented the Ketteler Award for Social Justice to Linda Yankoski, CSFN. She is an advocate for hope and healing of children and families in Western PA.

On August 2, 2015, the Sisters of Divine Providence presented the Ketteler Award for Social Justice to Beth Davies, CND. Beth is an advocate for the voiceless in Appalachia.

On Saturday, August 2, 2014, the Sisters of Divine Providence presented the Ketteler Award for Social Justice to Simone Campbell, SSS. Simone is a NETWORD-advocate for peace, immigration reform, healthcare and economic justice.

On October 23, 2012, the Sisters of Divine Providence presented the Ketteler Award for Social Justice to award-winning Christian singer and activist Natalie Grant. Natalie is a Christian singer involved in advocacy to end human trafficking.

For 2009, the Sisters of Divine Providence presented the Ketteler Award for Social Justice to Liguori Rossner, SFCC, co-founder Jubilee Kitchen & advocate for the voiceless.
2005 Ketteler Award for Social Justice
For 2005, the Sisters of Divine Providence presented the Ketteler Award for Social Justice to Edwina Gately and Elizabeth Vines, CDP. They are founder Genesis House and Volunteer Missionary Movement – advocate for the marginalized; co-founder of New Beginnings – treatment for drug and alcohol addiction, co-founder Jubilee Kitchen and advocate for the voiceless.
2004 Ketteler Award for Social Justice
For 2004, the Sisters of Divine Providence presented the Ketteler Award for Social Justice to Anita Green, CDP and Miriam Therese Mac Gillis. They have ministered to the “nameless children” of Romania and co-founder Genesis Farms – commitment to the earth.
2003 Ketteler Award for Social Justice
For 2003, the Sisters of Divine Providence presented the Ketteler Award for Social Justice to Roberta Grzelak, CDP and Jim and Kathry McGinnis for their advocacy on behalf of women and children and as founders of St Louis Institute for Peace and Justice.
