Sister Rosa Nguyen is a Sister of Providence from Mother Joseph Province in Seattle, WA.  She ministers at Providence High School in Burbank, California.  She has ministered there for more than four years but she is the only remaining Sister of Providence working there today.  

She grew up in a Catholic family in Viet Nam and entered the Sisters of Providence in 2009, professing her final vows on Feb. 10, 2018.

Sister Rosa was recently interviewed about her thoughts on religious life.  She has this to say:  “I felt a strong call to religious life.  I wanted to do something meaningful with my life and I took some time to discern God’s invitation to be a religious sister.  The more I discerned, the more I knew it was for me.  I see religious life not as a choice anybody can make on their own’ it is a response to God’s choice.”  

In the interview Sister Rosa goes on to tell why she chose the Sisters of Providence.  First she wanted an apostolic community in which she could be of service directly to and with people.  Secondly, the mission and call to proclaim the mysteries of Providence by compassionate love and creative, prophetic solidarity with the poor resonated within her.  Thirdly, she chose to enter the Sisters of Providence because she loved the community life–sharing, praying, and working together.  

Doing ministry at Providence High School is seen as a gift and blessing in her life.  Sister Rosa says:  “Although I am only one Sister of Providence in this mission, I am not doing it alone because I have more than one hundred Sisters of Providence with me in spirit.”  

Whether it is one sister or 10 sisters on a mission, it is done on behalf of the congregation and just like Sister Rosa, it is done with heart!  She brings the heritage and mission of the Providence legacy alive.
