Sisters of Providence, Holyoke, MA –
“We, the Sisters of Providence, Holyoke, Massachusetts are women committed to the charism of revealing the mystery of God’s Providence through ministries of healing. We work with individuals and groups who resonate with this charism and who want to build a more just world community…we live the Gospel call to service with undaunted hope, trusting in God’s unfailing Providence as we bring God’s care to those in need.” —Vision Statement
We walk in the footsteps of our foundress Catherine Horan (Mother Mary of Providence) striving, as she did, to address the social and healthcare needs of the times. As mandated in our Directional Statements, we give special attention to the needs of women, the Earth, and those who are poor. Our present efforts include:
- We sponsor Providence Ministries for the Needy, Inc., in Holyoke, and its network of services that provide food, clothing and shelter to those among us who are most in need.
- We are building Hillside Residence, 36 units of affordable, elder housing—integrated with health services provided by Mercy LIFE (PACE), a Program of All-inclusive Care for the Elderly, conveniently located nearby on the same campus in West Springfield.
- We operate Genesis Spiritual Life and Conference Center in Westfield, whose grounds and trees give witness to our concern for Earth. The property is free of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides, and since 2016 includes a Providence Arboretum raising guests’ awareness to the Divine and the interconnectedness of all creation.
